Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've worked on SQL and have been in here posting, reading, etc. I hope all is well in your corner of the world! We're getting ready for a major conversion here. We're taking processes that were written in Clipper and converting them to sql queries. I have approx 10 of them to write and I'm one of three people doing it.My question for my first query is in the design.I have to take records that are in one table and copy them to another. All of our customer service people, etc. have access to the records. They are able to update them as well as simply read them. I will need to run each record through 7 edits and set error codes where applicable. If the record has zero errors, then it has a status that is changed and the record is then copied to the next table. Would it be a better design if I applied the edits first? Or is there a way to incorporate them into the update statement and traverse through the recordset? Any guidance would be gladly welcomed! Thanks!Teresa"Someday I'll know enough to help someone else!" |

| DTS might be a good option for you depending on how often you need to move the data. Look in the BOL for more details on DTS. There's a TON of things you can do with it.Michael<Yoda>Use the Search page you must. Find the answer you will. |
