I'm on SQL Server 7 SP3.

Can you alter a column to have an IDENTITY? This is what I have tried:

alter table tblWhatever
alter column idcol int identity(1,1) not null

*************************
Just trying to get things done

Don't think so. You can add a colum that is Identity though.

ALTER TABLE tblWhatever ADD

idcol INT IDENTITY(1,1) not null
