| I recently started at a company that used embedded connection strings through out its whole intranet. It's in asp and uses the ADO.Connection for connecting. I have a development box setup that right now spoofs the host name of the box to think its the actualy intranet (www.site.com instead of wwwDEV.site.com). What I would thought about doing is spoofing the name of the database to point to the deveoplment database so I don't have to change any code at all. I used the hosts file to convert the domain name back to my own ip but how could I forward the database name to actually point to another database?Surely I'm not the only person that had to setup a development enviroment and ran into this problem. Thanks! |

| Hmm. I am far from a network admin. The network has to stay connected to our main network here as we use the Active Directory and all that. There isn't a solution such as adding a line to /etc/hosts? |
