 Updating Virtual Tables without updating base tabl

I want to create a virtual table on a base (real) table such that
If i update the virtual table, the base (real) table should not be updated, and it must continue to show only previous values already existed in it.Is it possible in SQL SERVER 2000?. I tried to do it with views but when i updated views the base (real) table was also updated..

You should not use View. Use other table
