Hi,

I have the example of C# and c# returning different results. I've googled around a little and can't find an answer that seems to sort it. Aparently I need to set the collation to Case Insensitive. However, when checking the server I think it already is, I'm connected to SQL Server 2000 through SQL Server Management Studio (2005) when checking the collation of the field it's set to database default:

Windows Collation (Latin1_General)
Dictionary set with only Accent Sensitive selected

Can anyone else offer any advice on how to sort it?

Many thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

Why don't you post the example?

Solutions are easy. Understanding the problem, now, that's the hard part.

Hi Ryan,

Well the example is fairly simple:
DECLARE @Keywords varchar(1000)
SET @Keywords = 'c#'
SELECT
[Rank],
[Key]
FROM
FREETEXTTABLE(dbo.tblJobs, *, @Keywords)

When searching for "c#" it returns 1 result, if I search C# it returns 369 results (you can see it in action at www.wantthatjob.com if you want). I think this http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.server/browse_thread/thread/91bf7d82ea35e097/490d15cfe8bc4a8e%23490d15cfe8bc4a8e relates to my issue but I'm not 100%

sorry, let me clarify, I edited the file D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\FTDATA\SQLServer\Config\noise.eng and removed the line that read:

a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z

Restarted the MS Search Service, rebuilt the catalog and it didn't help... :(

Another example (from another Full Text search I've just found) if you search G.I.L.F and g.i.l.f it's again a case sensitive search with G.I.L.F returning results where g.i.l.f doesn't...

TIA
