in SQL server 7, you will find PWDENCRYPT to encrypt the data . and therez no way to decrypt it, you can compare your encrypted data with another value with PWDCOMPARE function.

Nazim is right, those searches will give you a good background. But one way is use a 3rd part component like ASP Encrypt to encrypt the data before it gets passed to SQL Server.
