Two things..1. Why would the following insert 1+ million rows per minute as shown(explicit), and only 20K per minute when the begin and commit tran are removed (implicit)?Declare @Now datetime, @EndTime datetime,@DELAY varchar(15)set nocount onselect @Now = GetDate(), @EndTime = dateadd(mi,5, GetDate())Begin tranWhile @Now < @EndTime Begin /*insert*/ insert into Fail_Over_Test_EX.dbo.Fail_Over_Insert_Ex (TestVal) values('Test this insert') /*increment*/ set @Now = GetDate() Endcommit tran2. Does anyone know where I can the EventSubClass for the Transaction Log (54) event descripitons? Trace outputs an integer, and I need to know what they mean. Thanks in advance.Terry

1. Simple recovry model or logs baclups? Maybe it is the effort of clearing the log which is slowing it down. The transaction would prevent this.I found that with simple recovery model the inserts would pause periodically.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

Full Recovery. I am truncating the log before running, and there is no log growth in either mode. Thanks

Have you run a backup on the database? If not then it will act as if it is simple until the backup is taken as the tr log backups could not be applied.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.
