Is there a way to stop the genereated error message description from being displayed and only my custom description displayed instead along with the output of a select statement?

IF @@Error <> 0
BEGIN
RAISERROR('MULTIPLE OPEN ORDERS FOR SAME ITEM!.',16,1)
SELECT * FROM dbo.orders order by item_no
END

All I get is the system genereated description, my description and no select output?

Thnx

don't raise the error, use the return code and check it in your app and display your own error code from app

I have no control over the app only what gets returned from the stored procedure. Thinking about it I only have the option to display the system generated message and my own as the app displays a windows message box with the error. BUMS!
