Afternoon,

I have an update query using PHP, the back end is SQL. I had the field as a nvarchar 255 and was asked to make it bigger so I changed the field to text and now it seems to still think it's 255. I echo'd the query and the PHP part is showing everything I typed but when I query the database the extra words (over 255 chars) aren't showing up.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Laura

Why is it nvarchar in the first place?

Yo could make it varchar(8000). But if needs to be in uni-code got with varchar(4000).

I suspect that you might need to look at SET TEXTSIZE. Do you know what Books online is?

In any event, I would not use the text data type

No, no slam....just need to level set the playing field

Why did you chose text?

When you say you query the database and the extra characters aren't showing up, are you referring to Query Analyzer? If so, go to Tools..Options..Results tab. You'll need to change the value to something bigger.

I chose text only because this is a text field and they can enter a lot of information. Obviously the wrong choice, I've changed it to varchar 8000. Okay now I can narrow down the code...Thanks Tara. Because the PHP front end was only showing 255 char amd so was the QA results I was pulling my hair out! Now I now where the problem lies. Half the battle right there.

Thanks to all.
