Man, I feel like a total idiot posting this question, having worked for 5+ years with Sql Server/databases, but my experience is in another field entirely. What is the basic design idea for designing a ledger-type of table? Something like what Quickbooks represents. Are debits and credits stored in one column as negative and positive values (kind of like a checkbook, where deposits and checks reside together, albeit in separate columns for clarity), or is the "ledger" actually a conglomeration of two tables, one which includes AP payment entries and the other AR payment entries?I'm trying to design a very simple accounting system. I will keep it simple! No scope creep! I might accept this database design job as contract work, so scope creep is not my problem anyways. Uh Oh. You're all mumbling "famous last words"... Got any experience? I'd appreciate any input.Sarah Berger MCSD |
