when I do a free text search on one character with a space on either side I get:Server: Msg 7619, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Execution of a full-text operation failed. A clause of the query contained only ignored words. Any ideas on how I solve this one anyone?and no, I'm not Japanese...

It's a noise word. That's the first time I've had to deal with that one. Guess I got to take it out the list now.

One thing though,I have to edit the noise.eng file. But I can't because windows says it is in use. This is on a live server, so I need to be sure on how to solve this.If I stop the SQL Server Service, will that release the reference to the file so that I can edit it?

I would think that you SHOULD be able to stop the FTS, independant of stopping SQL server.Only service not available therefore to the users would be FTS (indexing??)
