Tim writes "Greetings SQL Guru!
I am currently developing a database and website using asp and sqlserver for tracking the paths taken by visitors through a website. This feature is already implemented in Hitbox.com and Webtrendslive.com tracking services (but they won't say how they do it!! ;-)
The relevant data I receive includes the page url of the visitor 'hit', their ip address and the date and time.
The hit table in the databse might be structured so:
Visitor ID, IP , PageURL , Date/Time
1 , 203.465.34.3, http:/1.com/1.htm , 25/5/99 08:55 .. .. . ...
etc etc. How do I then construct a query to display the information as so:
Visitor Paths: (by popularity)
page order: , number of times:
page1 then page 4 , 68 page 3 then page 6 then page 8 , 53 times .. .. ..
etc.
The solution probably involves a certain database structure, and complicated query, but I can't think of a solution...:)
Thank you for your help, Regards,
timk
