You don't. Ever. Running a program that requires user interaction will cause your SQL Server to hang.

...and, if you somehow manage to get it launched as a background process, your server will eventually become full of stale notepade.exe processes, fall over, and die.

Do you ever wonder how people come up with these wild ideas? I mean, seriously, what are they thinking that SQL Server is or does that would lead you to think, "Hey, maybe I could get SQL Server to launch an application for me." I just don't get it. Maybe I'm too narrow-minded, thinking that I should only be using my SQL Server to store and retrieve data. Maybe I'm stuck in a rut and just not thinking outside-the-box. But I really wonder sometimes about how they got there.
