Hi,
I have a loop that creates a string to be used later to create a ##-temporary table with a variable number of columns. The string variable @String varchar(4000) is concatenated with a new column definiton each round. However, @String never gets longer that 256 characters although the loop seems to work fine and there is no error messages given. Does someone know the reason for this?

Is this in QA?
The default maximum characters per column is 256 - display purposes only. Thats why it works but the @string seems concatenated.
You can change this by going to Tools >> Options >> Results tab

If this isnt the case then can you give more detail
