Is there a function to return the absolute value of a number?

Tried a search, no luck.

If you search the index of books online and type in "absolute value" it comes right up. Disturbingly easy isn't it?!

Books Online can be found on the Start Menu, Programs, Microsoft SQL Server.

Yes, we're teasing you, but you pretty much asked for it.

Sorry, I meant I searched this forum. At least I tried to avoid wasting people's time :-)

BTW I don't have SQL server, I'm using MSDE.

SQL Server Books Online documentation is not just for people who pay money to Microsoft. It's also available on the web:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/startsql/portal_7ap1.asp

If you are working with MSDE a lot, you may want to spring for the $50 to buy the Developer Edition of SQL Server 2000 so that you can get the client unilities, including Books Online
