We have 2 main applications, Macola and Goldmine, currently neither are running on SQL Server, butwe are in the process of converting them.Should we have 2 seperate servers each running SQL Server or 1 server running SQL Server with 2 seperate databases? We have about 30 users that would be connecting to both at any given time. Would there be a considerable amount ofperformance gain if there were 2 seperate servers?

Well, it depends. If your one server has sufficient hardware to support both, then certainly you can put both in one instance, or separate the applications amongst two instances on one server. If the one server does not have sufficient hardware, then you'd need two servers. Given the information that you have provided, we can not provide a direct answer.Tara

Tara,Thank you for your reply. The server has dual 2.8 xeon cpu, 2 gigs of ram and scsi hard drive raid. There would be 30 users connected simotainiously. SQL Server would be the only application running on this server.

That's not bad, but it's only part of the information needed. You also have to know what the applications will be doing, how much data will be stored, etc.Otherwise, it's like saying, "I have a 24,000 pound truck with a 300 hp engine. Is that big enough?" Who can say without knowing what you are hauling?quote: Originally posted by jrockfl Tara,Thank you for your reply. The server has dual 2.8 xeon cpu, 2 gigs of ram and scsi hard drive raid.
