While using Index Tuning Wizard [ I'm a rookie ;) ] is there any reason I would limit the physical space allowed for indexes? Besides free harddrive space on the server?

Thanks!

If you don't want it to add 50 indexes to each of your tables, that would be a good reason.

I ran it once (ONLY ONCE! Actually someone else did. I mean it!) and it was suggesting all KINDS of indexes. Single column, multiple-column (A,B) and (B,A) combinations. We ended up adding 8 indexes to an 8 column table, that already HAD 6 indexes. Plus a half-dozen statistics. It appeared to have made some improvement but I know the insert performance has dropped quite a bit. Fortunately we rarely do multi-row operations on that table.

Anyway, enough ranting.

Hey Rob,

Ok, I uppped the space from 2gig to 5gig haha not sure if it went that high but I added a hell of alot of indexes. I don't do much updated so I'll see how it does and ease off if necessary.

thanks for the tip!
