Can the transaction log be backed up when a database is set to Recovery Model Simple? i have read conflicting information on this but most of what I read points to NO.

The purpose for me asking this question is due some documentation I read. We have a SQL 2K (SP3) server running McAfee EPO Agent. Their following link states we should set up the database in Simple recovery mode AND that we should set up the maintenance plan to do Transaction Log back ups.
