I just downloaded MSDE and am trying to install it on an XP machine. It downloaded fine. It extracted fine. Now I am trying to run "setup.exe" and when I run it it says:

"A strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same. Refer to readme for more details. Setup will now exit."

I can't find a readme anywhere..

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Does it ask you for an SA password? Are you supplying one? If so, try and use at least one upper case letter, one number and a special character. That should get past strength checks.

trying doing setup.exe sapwd="MyREallyStrongPassword!" or similar.

Thanks,

The secret was to start it from the command line, and using a password like you suggested.
