Hi all, We have a .Net application that we've made to measure server performance under load and it accesses performance counters on the server and puts the data in a report with a nice little graph. One user has reported that his performance counter doesn't work; it throws an exception 'buffer overflow', but only when he adds a performance counter for a specific instance of SQL Server on this machine. The default instance perf counters work just dandy! Anyone have a clue where to look to fix the problem?

See if he has the latest service pack for SQL Server and the OS. Also, he is using SQL 2000 isn't he?MeanOldDBAderrickleggett@hotmail.comWhen life gives you a lemon, fire the DBA.

Hi Derrick, Yup. It's SQL 2000 SP3 on Windows 2000 SP4. I had Googled the heck out of this problem and I did come across something from MS stating this was a known problem in NT that was supposedly fixed in Windows 2000.

Well, that was my guess. You could uninstall the other instance. :)MeanOldDBAderrickleggett@hotmail.comWhen life gives you a lemon, fire the DBA.

I think this issue is caused by a planetary alignment problem. I'll check the server's horoscope. :-)
