| Again, I know this question is not related to SQL at all but since you guys have so many expertises in computer fields, I thought maybe you might know the answer for my question or point me to somewhere else.I have been trying to research the differences between the Celeron and the Pentium with regards to bottom line performance. My question are: How does the Celeron compare to the Pentium? How does Dimension 2400 compare to 4600?I have heard some people say: "Celeron sucks" and "Dimension 2400 sucks" but never hear anyone explains why they suck. A friend of mine is trying to buy a computer for personal use (email, browse the web and use MS Offices) and she asks for my help. I have done some research on DELL.com but it doesn't really talk about the differences between those processors in term of the benefits so here I turn to you guys for help.Lisa. |

| Do a search - there's lots of info.Don't know about 2400's but celeron's suffer from the lack of 2nd level cache (and probably other things) which makes them a lot slower.See http://tech-report.com/reviews/2002q3/celeron-1.7/index.x?pg=1For email and browsing shouldn't make much difference (depending on the site) but for office things should load and run faster with the pentium.Memory would probably make more difference though especially if below 512MB.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

Even most pocket calculators have more than 512K these days Nigel!! ....it'd be interesting to see how much of SQLServer could launch in that space......"Memory would probably make more difference though especially if below 512k." |
