Our table stores text results of failed transactions I need to find the username, date and text string excluding certain known error results. Since group by and distinct won't work with text, ntext or image data, I'm getting a lot of duplicate rows. Can someone shed some light on how to get around this? My query follows:

select date,name,text_result
from dbo.databasename dbn
where dbn.text_result not like 'blahblahblah1' and
dbn.text_result not like 'blahblahblah2'

Do you really need all that data in the text column? If not, you could just cast it to varchar(8000), this will let you group by it.
