Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 7.0

We've had a couple of questions about bugs that are resolved by one of the SQL Server service packs. What follows is a brief discussion of SQL Server Service Pack 2 (say that five times fast).

The most common question asked here seems to be "CoInitialize not called". Syl just asked about this earlier. MMC will often report this when trying to open Database Diagrams. It's fixed in the service packs. Also most DTS and OLAP problems are fixed by the latest service pack.

Swynk.com has an article about Service Pack 2 and another about the few minor bugs in service pack 2. Overall, the fixes far outweigh the headaches.

If you haven't already, I'd strongly encourage you to download service pack 2 and install it. It's been out since about March and has proven itself very stable.

Comment from SQLGuru - SQL Server service packs should not only be installed on the server, but your workstation as well. Otherwise, you'll miss out on important bugfixes to the administrative tools.
