Well our supplier is on the ball as usual, and has finally announced support for SQL 2005 . . . In fact as of June 2008 they are no longer going to support the application on SQL2K . . . . Personally as we've waited this long I would have rather they went for SQL2K8, after all just because MS have put SQL2K on extended support doesn't meant that we have to move off it . . . and if the applciation is working ?However tis now means that we are faced with upgrading our two node SQL 2K Cluster (s) to SQL 2K5. I may have a very simple view of this but can I simply do1) Take the Passive node offline2) Install SQL2K5 (Default Instance) on the offline Passive Node3) Arrange an outage and take the Active Node off line4) Bring the Passive Node Online and restore the backup of the system DB's I took Before (1)5) Install SQL2K5 on the former active Now Passive node6) Bring the Passive node back online and check Failover etc. This is further complicated by the fact that there is a second instance running on the cluster (Another App by the same supplier) That may not be supported on SQL2K5.-- RegardsTony The DBA |

Why don't just upgrade sql2k instance to sql2k5? Don't think you can restore sql2k's system dbs on sql2k5. |
