Hi All,

Could someone please confirm for me that if I set up Mirroring between my 2 servers (disregarding the Witness), I would only need 1 processor licence. ie. the server that sits in restore mode would not need to be licenced providing it is of an equal or lesser spec than the primary. Is this correct?

Thanks.

You would have to pay for as many processor licenses as there are processors in the primary server. The mirror server would not have to be paid for providing it has less or equal number of processors as the primary server.

Thanks Vladimir,

I have also just found that if the servers are not of an equal spec then you have 30 days grace period before you have to buy a licence. This looks very good for what I need.

Also, if you are using the mirror server for anything else apart from mirroring (e.g. reporting), you have to buy the license for it. Of course, if the failover occurs, the mirror server is not the mirror server anymore, but the principal server, which means it is used for something more than just mirroring. :-) In that case you have 30 days to either buy the license, or to perform failback to the licensed server.
