Still learning. Still have a lot of area then have not really touch on in SQL 2000 and now SQL 2005 is out."dont u all have anything else to do than 24 hrs answering all posts?"Yes. I have. But i can't says the same about Peter "anybody get paid?"Not me . I thought the previous Q is the last Q ?"are you sql support staff or just some kind of devoted volunteer??"No. I am just a SQL . "how did u all start"started as a c++ developer 6 years ago.got pissed over a slow query 4 years ago. read about SQL and optimized it's ass off ever since i've been hooked.Unlike .net which is more or less an exact science, i think about sql as an art. in SQL you can't say steps 1 to 5 will do the exactly the same thing on every server.the correct answer is always: it depends."what's yur first query?"i have no idea anymore"how long u've been doing sql"around 4 years"how come master it so quick??"as i said SQL is an art form so you can't master it. you can only get better and better "dont u all have anything else to do than 24 hrs answering all posts?"well personally i have sqlTeam active topics opened throughout my work day and it refreseh the topics every 5 minutes.i look at the forum about once every half an hour."anybody get paid?"nobody here gets paid."are you sql support staff or just some kind of devoted volunteer??"not even close.there are some people from sql server product team that monitor the forum but that's it..._______________________________________________Causing trouble since 1980blog: http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/mladenp |

Picasso?I don't know who was that? But I know google provides free software called Picasa to organize your photos...So I guess Picasso has something to do with photos...may be he was internationally acclaimed photographer !Leonardo da Vinci? No idea...But I recently read a book called Da Vinci code...so I guess this person is/was code breaker or cryptographer may be..! "I wrote my own database engine in the mid 80's with Borland Pascal."Pah! I did that back in the '70's in Basic .... but I expect someone here did in tablets of stone in a cave back before Pontious was a Pilot ...Had Referential Integrity with Attributes ... perhaps I should patent that and sell it to MS ... but the 1st-normal-formers would no doubt object. The FK could be established with a given value for a column, so a single table of "lookup codes" with an "attribute column" was used by all simple lookups. Each table had its own file, and lots of files = slow ... so needs-must. There was also a "conditional attribute" - so depending on the value of a column (in the "many" table) a different "attribute" could be matched (in the "one" table); when that was migrated to SQL Server we added a "Ad-hoc addition to ON clause in the JOIN" to allow even more "loose" R.I. ... the R.I. could also enforce 1:1, and had the ability to define an "Item" column in the Child record - so that, for example, an Order Item would automatically get the next available ItemNo [for the current OrderID].Yeah, the 1st-normal-formers will be having a fit! But, Hey!, I had already decompiled the basic interpreter and reused the space taken up by the useless TRIG functions for some Date handling extensions to Basic ...Kristen |
