| But without null you wouldn't be able to use coalesce!==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

| I think an "empty shell" would be more analogous to an emptry string. I believe he was referring to you as that which never was, or perhaps that which is not but will be. Like a DOD, which of course is something that no one can have until they are no more - the only thing you can "take with you". Yes Spirit1, I think Stoad's point is that you are a DOD to one who is. Depends on the implementation of the relational model.For instance, if relation valued attributes (RVA) were possible then OUTER JOIN would not be necessary.A relation could be extended with a RVA, and if no match it would just be empty.Well, since this is not possible in SQL, the discussion is only theoretical, and in practice NULL will continue to represent missing values for outer joins. |
