I have a friend who purchased a new PC running Win XP Home.

The Desktop/Properties/Apperance/Font Size drop down box has only one font-size choice: Normal.

My PC has Large and Extra Large.

It's an eyesight thing. 1280x1024 resolution, and she needs larger fonts.

Anyone know how I can increase the font size on her display properties?

What happens if you change the resolution to something lower?

The fonts appear larger.

I'm told that they solved this problem - something about XP being in "Classic" mode prevented the other fonts sizes from appearing.

It's supposed to be OK now. The next call I got was that the HP scanner had a "proprietary" USB cable. USB on one end, firewire on the other.

"USB on one end, firewire on the other"

ROTFL! Why on earth would they design something like that ....

So you've have to buy the HP cable so that they "know it works."
Translated from business speak that's so they know they can make a few extra bucks on that printer.

I seriously doubt that the cable is a USB/Firewire convertor. Challenging this subject wasn't on my agenda.

there are usb cables that have a firewire-like end (not exactly like), but it is still USB.

Tru tru
The USB cable for my DV Camcorder uses a really small connector on one end that is almost like the small Firewire connector.
The USB one is like a trapazoid, the firewire one is a square with one side dented in.

Oh, right. I assumed it was like a gearbox - the firewire end running faster than the USB end

I always change my font size using Desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced and then change the DPI settings. I'm not sure if that's the proper way or not though.
