Not using all caps is always a better option. Posting your question on a PHP, ASP, or SourceSafe website would be an even better option. SQL Team is a SQL Server web site.

CVS or Subversion are great, and free.

If you want something that looks like VSS, Sourcegear's Vault.

subversion is probably the way to go. This company has a proxy for it to make it interact with all the tools that only work with VSS. Their proxy for CVS worked flawlessly btw, if you want to explore CVS instead.

my bookmark says www.pushok.com, but that website seems to be unresponsive right now. Anyway, they sell an inexpensive product to make subversion and CVS work with any SCC (VSS) compatible IDE.
