I've got a (Drive E) FAT partition on Win 2000 Pro (desktop). No files on it at all on that drive. If I try a quick NTFS format, I get a denial stating I should close programs referencing the drive.I don't know of any software referencing the drive. Is there a workaround? Some way to format from a DOS boot or SAFE mode?Sam |

You could convert it to NTFS using the convert command. From the command prompt enter:convert e: /fs:ntfs You still might get that error saying that the system can't get exclusive access to the drive, but now there will be an option to convert it the next time you boot.-ec |

No files on it at all...Not even system or hidden files? You probably aren't showing these files in Windows Explorer. Tools..Folder Options..View tab. Then Hidden files and folders option as well as hide protected operating system files check box. Perhaps you've got the paging file on that drive.Tara |

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try both suggestions (tonight) when I'm near that machine.Sam |
