Well they already sold it...since it was losing money

A large Insurance company selling off their Securities firm on the street.

Guess what....we get called to archive ALL of their old systems..

AND must be responsible for legal and complaince requests for all their data..

Systems are a real mess

QSAM, BDAM, VSAM, CICS, Assembler, SQL Server, INFORMIX, DB2 OS/390...

You name it...(actually no Oracle...must have been too complicated for them)

Now the question...How?

How the hell Do you do this? The Subject Matter Experts are being ejected at light speed?

I need to come up with a system transition plan...I'd figure I'd start an invetory list, design an system architect chart...maybe data flow...

Of course there is no documentation...or very little...

I always heard the brokerage houses flew by the seat of their pants but this ridiculous....

Any ideas or sympathy appreciated...

You're joking.
I recommend a sabatical.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

Brett

Let the institution formerly known as First Union handle it.

Let's just say I know where your SQL Team user name comes from.

You familiar with PRD? It may have been a while back for you.

Took a buyout to return to my home state. Left before the real massacre ensued. I actually miss it some, NJ and the PRD. Contracting down here now which is cool.

simple advice.....print everything....and shove it all into some U-Store-IT facility....and give some immigrant security guard the key.....and walk away.

It's a solution....it just may not be an efficient data retrieval mechanism.....but it does satisfy the archival requirements...
