Plz, can anybody enlighten me:
why some web pages on some web sites can be saved on local drive
only while on-line? More precisely, they can be saved off-line but
their html bodies are left virginally blank....

Stoad, I don't understand your question. What do you mean by saved while online vs. saved while off-line? I've only saved a few pages that I was browsing, normally, if I want to temporarily hold onto something I'll save the shortcut to my desktop, but of course this means I can't view the page while I'm off-line.

I would guess a lot of the view-ability has to do with how much of the page is graphic, although I think there's an option to download all the images when you save, too. And I would guess that a page which immediately expires (check HTML header info) might also have problems being viewed offline.

OK, Mark,

first of all let's forget about graphic - I keep it turned off
and not interested in pictures of any sort.... What I mean is:
I.E. menu bar >> File >> Save as...
If I am still connected then the page got saved OK, but if I
disconnect (from inet I mean) and try to save it then I get
it saved but blank....

And this happens only for some sites, but others save okay? Or is this an across-the-board behavior?

Of course, Mark. And apparently it is done intentionally,
but why the IE is so obedient? I see the tricky page before
my eyes on my monitor ... and can't save it...

Sorry, nothing off the top of my head on this one. Assuming there's something in the header or JavaScript. If you send me a link, I'll see if I can come up with something. BTW, is this IE-specific? Or get the same result in Netscape?

I can't say anything about NN - never used it (more correctly,
did not like its appearance)... As to some illustrative link... hm
I've spent an hour looking for it and did not find any with that
saving feature.... something weird....

I think its because of other external links on the page, possibly Javascript or Stylesheets. If you are interested in just the text on the page, right click on the page, select view source and then select "Save As", change file type to "All types" and type in the desired name with a ".htm" extension.

Thanks, Owais.... clever workaround you proposed, but it
seems needless so far coz I still can't reproduce 'my effect'.
Feel ashamed.
