I think such a forum would be great. I doubt that I would ever post anything because those areas aren't my strengths, but I would definitely read the threads just to learn more.Tara |

How about under General.I fear further debates with a certain person who forces me to resort to dictionaries and review ancient mystical documents. But maybe that's a good thing.Theoretical design/ standard sql isn't always the best for sql server or an implementation but it's always worth knowing about.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

Hmmm. Interesting idea. Usually the impetus to start a new forum comes from lots of posts in other forums that don't really fit in an existing forum. That way I can keep the old forum(s) focused and keep the discussion going. To this point I haven't noticed a large number of design questions. Granted, many other questions are really design questions masquerading as query help, performance, etc. I'm not sure those people would know to post in the design forum though. On the other hand, it would be a great place to continue the IDENTITY "debates" :)Anyone else have any thoughts?===============================================Creating tomorrow's legacy systems today. One crisis at a time. |

I think that debate is circular and will never be won. We have had it, the same one, a few times now. Time to move on Damian |

Regardless of the IDENTITY debate, there are other debates that could be held, and discussed in a theorey/design forum, such as:To NULL or Not to NULL - I'm sure Joe Celko would give us a comment or two if he saw it...Denormalization for Performance - myth or mystery ?off the top of my head .... and I'm sure the more long-brained amongst us could come up with intersting and valid debates as well ..*#* *#* *#* *#* Chaos, Disorder and Panic ... my work is done here! |

No more discussion on this topic? I just posted a design question in the general category...and I heartily agree with:quote: Granted, many other questions are really design questions masquerading as query help, performance, etc.
If you don't have any room, maybe you could do away with the Access forum. Brett8-) |
