We have a SQL Server database that holds both english and japanese. I can only actually see the japanese on our japanese server. On my machine i just see lots of ???????'s. Does anyone know how i can set my machine up so that i can switch between english and japanese (Katana). I know it's something to do with clicking on the EN language symbol in the bottom right of the screen. I also know that the Minto font is fine for displaying japanese characters. I did have it set up a few years ago by our long since departed IT manager and unfortunately the IT support chaps that we currently have are very inexperienced.

I just need to be able to view japanese characters on my machine not actually switch the entire language of it.

thanks

Hi Paul:

Your pc needs to be Japanese-enabled. If you are running Win2k or XP, the procedure thankfully quite simple. Go to the Control Panel -> Regional Options and in the Language Options, check the Japanese language option. (Have you CD handy, it might be needed). This will install support for Unicode, Japanese and necessary fonts.

And the little EN button on the taskbar is used to switch the keyboard language, you wont be needing that unless you want to type in Japanese!

hi

thanks for the info seems nice and easy to view it.

I would need to type in Japanese as well, just to set fonts and test front-ends. Is that easy to do as well.......

Having just looked, I guess i need to go to the keyboard settings and input locales and add a Japanese language in here also !?

thanks
