| Thank you.so you mean although there are many data types in SQL, such as char(n), verchar2(n), number(o,d), data, long. it doesn't matter if you assign wrong type to a variable?i have another question:what is the parameter passing mechanism in SQL? is it By Reference or By Content or both? |

| Am sorry , the Second Q is Yes.I should have been more clearer on your 2nd Q.Firstly, Sql server doesnt have anything like varchar2, its with Oracle.you can always assign numeric values to char and varchar .but cant assign char values to numeric variables.Parameter passing mechanism is by val.i will suggest u to go thru BOL.-------------------------What lies behind you and what lies ahead of you are small matters compared to what lies within you.-Ralph Waldo Emerson |

| BOL is Books Online, the SQL Server documentation.However, I suspect you are using Oracle. This site is SQL Server focussed. You might be best off at an Oracle site.Hope that helpsDamian |
