Hi,I'm about to start working on a new project on my own and I'm thinking about some names and I have one particular in mind that I wanted to ask your opinion about. The name is lipscore (www.lipscore.com). My wife says she feels the name sounds a little "dodgy" but I don't think that at all. Hopefully I'll be able to tell you more about what it really is in 3-4 months but right now I'm just interested in what feeling you get when hearing the name. Is it negative?- LumbagoMy blog-> http://thefirstsql.com |

It depends on the purpose :-)Is the site about scoring/ranking photos of lips, then you are straight on. N 56°04'39.26"E 12°55'05.63" |

Hehe...it has nothing to do with neither lip photos or medical profession :)But I guess I have to reveal a hint or two about the real purpose to get something sensible so here goes; the project actually is a kind of rating/review system and the "Lip"-part of the name is actually a reference to an opinion a user of a website has. So the "lipscore" would be the average score of several ratings of something. I got the idea from the term "giving lip" and I know that "giving lip" means to talk to a person in negative terms but finding available domain names is hard these days so this is the "best" I've come up with so far.- LumbagoMy blog-> http://thefirstsql.com |

I have to agree with your wife. Sounds a bit dodgy until you explain it. The way people are today, they won't stick around if you have to explain ANYTHING. However, that may just be the "hook". oooooo lipscore... mmmmm gotta check THAT out... How to ask: http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/brettk/archive/2005/05/25/5276.aspx |

Hmmm...finding a good name is soo haaard!! If you don't think to much about it I would say that lipscore sounds good and is kinda catchy but I agree that it can also sound a bit frisky. The really sad part is that I'm gonna ditch my favorite RDBMS in favor of one of the NoSQL alternatives, most likely MongoDB, for this project...it just scales so insanely well that it would be stupid to use something else. This is of course going to be the next really big thing - LumbagoMy blog-> http://thefirstsql.com |

BTW: I just registered peegh.com (domains are so cheap!) which sounds really weird but is actually the translation of "recommend" in the StarTrek language Klingon! Thought maybe that could be kinda cool and also give some cred among the hardcore nerds hehe...but then again; having a domain/product name with "pee" in it might not be all that great - LumbagoMy blog-> http://thefirstsql.com |
