when clustering SQL server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 does witness disk is manadatory? Reason I have three node clsuter and want to use Node Majority only quorum model? |

I don't believe it's mandatory, unless you don't have enough nodes for Node Majority. |

Thanks.I wanted to confirm as wih Windows 2003 you must need a witness. |

I don't think that's true irrespective of whether it is Windows 2003 or 2008.Node majority quorum relies on the number of nodes that up and running.If the no of running nodes are greater than the failed nodes the quorum is still running.The witness disk is only required in a Node and Disk majority quorum model where the node as well the witness disk has a vote in maintaining the quorum.After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says W T F .... |
