| Ever have one of those meetings were you have to repeatedly explain.• That you cannot pull data out of thin air.• That there is no link up to the national central computer.• That the system cannot understand “well you know”.• That you cannot reprogram their blackberry to mimic their desktop while on the road.Then have to restrain yourself from belting the blond at the end of the table who keeps saying - “But you’re the IT guy you can do anything” JimUsers <> Logic |

| As a non-scripting DBA what REALLY irks me is management who expect same-morning overhauls of 400 lines of code, luckily I don't (seem) to have any of those onsite but my radar is very finely attuned to those statements that start "I/We JUST need this done today".... |

Most of my SQL work consists of "can you just fix this one thing today?"It's just when i see SELECT * FROM Table1,Table2,Table3,Table4 WHERE ....and they only use the FIRST ITEM from the FIRST column from the FIRST ROW in the result set. Re-write, test, then claim it takes all day to fix Yea, the Scottie SQL method!
