Hi

I’m looking to purchase SQL 2008R2 STANDARD edition – and I just need to confirm a few things.

With STANDARD will I get all the SSRS reporting features? (like I’d get with enterprise edition)

The difference in pricing quotes between Standard & Enterprise is so significant I think I’m missing something.

We are a medium sized organisation – where the server will be used as a Report Server – with a small number of users (10) requiring Client access… and 50 users requiring access to SSRS reports… Will Standard edition give me all I need?

Sorry for the posting – I’ve looked around internet & aren’t 100% certain – this forum giving me a simple YES will be all I need ;-)

Thanks

We need more information about your setup. It sounds like need 60 additional CALs in addition to the server license that you need to purchase. Will the ReportServer be on the database server? If it's not, then you need an additional server license.

Whether or not standard edition has all that you need is dependent upon your requirements. It certainly supports Reporting Services. We require high availability and the likes and have thousands of users connecting to our systems, so we purchase Enterprise edition with CPU licensing. It is VERY expensive, but that's what we require.

Thanks tkizer

The set-up is 10 users with Client Access to the Report data warehouse. These 10 will design & build reports using SSRS & deploy to the Report Server.
We will have 50 users that access the reports via the Report server URL.
The 50 have no requirement for any development - purely report users - so do they need CAL's?

The ReportServer will be on the database server.

I get the feeling standard ed will be enough – great to know it has all BIDS functionality, whatever the version.

One Standard edition server license plus 60 CALs should do it then. Yes those 50 need CALs.
