Hi everyone,

This is for 2008 R2.

I installed 2008 R2 64 bit onto a Windows 2003 server.

I chose Windows authentication.

It seems that users that are in the local Administrators group are NOT automatically able to access SQL Server.

But, if I remember correctly, with Mixed Mode authentication, anyone added to the Administrators group has the sysadmin role by default. Is this correct?

Thanks, John

That was true SQL 2005 SP1 and earlier. In 2005 SP2 the security was tightened so that local admin != sysadmin. Now if you want someone to be admin, you have to specify it, it doesn't happen by default, which is a very good thing for security.

Thanks, GilaMonster. I agree, a long-needed enhancement.
