Hi

I am currently on my work PC and have upgraded my OS to W7 from Vista, previously on Vista I had MSSQLServer 2008 installed, not sure which version as it was a package I got from our shared network and I cannot see the version now as it won't work. I do not know exactly what has happened:

Can't see MSSQLServer in programs and features ( the new 'add/remove programs' of W7) list
SQL Server Still listed in Programs under start menu - when run it gives this error:

quote:
MMC cannot open the file C:\windows\system32\sqlservermanager10.msc

This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. this may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to this file.

And this file is not present in the listed directory.

I tried downloading rerunning setup.exe in my package but got the 2nd screeshot as shown in this link:

http://sqlblog.com/blogs/aaron_bertrand/archive/2009/08/14/is-sql-server-2008-supported-on-windows-7-windows-server-2008-r2.aspx

I have tried to install the SP1 R1 and got the 3rd screenshot in the link above, so i tried rebooting (as per instruction in link) > rerunning the SP1 and it ran the rule checker, then listed the features to upgrade list showing an instances window, there are no instances in the list and when I clicked next I got error there are no SQL server instance or shared features that can be upgraded on this computer.

So then tried downloading and running SP1 R2 - same thing - no instances.

Any ideas this is driving me nuts now?
