Please provide me if you have any.

I don't have anything to share. I honestly think certifications are not worth the time unless:

1. you have no experience and are wanting to get into a junior position
2. you are a consultant: experience + certifications

The one that's worthwhile is the MCM, however that's an elite group of people. There's no way I could get that certification even with my many years of experience.

What about looking for a job in general? Especially if you go to a different country.

I would think your resume would be stonger with the certification. I would think many employers who spend an average of 2 - 5 minutes looking at a resume would associate value to it.

We've done quite a bit of hiring over the past 5 years, and we always ignore the certifications. We only care about experience/knowledge. Certs prove neither of these (except the MCM). I work for a large company where your job is very directed. Perhaps a small-medium sized company where you need "jack of all trades" type people would benefit from people who have certs.

I agree with the importance of hands-on experience, there are some advantages to doing the certifications. For example , a DBA may be forced to read up on areas they are not very knowledgable.

Providing they didn't cheat and just memorise brain dumps (all too bloody common). I've encountered admins with the MCITP (administrator) certification who didn't know there was more than one type of backup in SQL Server.

Yes, there are people who cheat. One consideration would be to make the certification more analytical. In my experience the IBM DB2 certification is more effective - and focused on problem solving.
