Hello-I have a new server with SQL 2008 R2 installed. I can connect to the database engine by either typing the full name or going to browse for servers and going to the 'network servers'. I cannot see the local instances in the 'local servers' tab. i did register all the instances and tested them. Is there something else i am missing to have these instances show up? |

I wouldn't consider this a problem. Just type in the name. For what it's worth, I just tried it on a local instance and get the same thing you do, even with the browser service running -- which I typically keep disabled. |
