Folks
I have a Windows Server 2003 and SQL 2005 SP3.
I need to bring it up to Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2.
Anybody ever done that as an inplace upgrade?
or is it worth it?
or would you highly recommend scratching the server and rebuilding it from 0.

We have a replicated server whereby we don't really need a "Down Time"

Any Help is welcome

I think in-place upgrades are much too risky for production. We did do an in-place upgrade of the OS (2003 to 2008) in our test environment just to try it out, and it did work perfectly.

The best option is to do a side-by-side upgrade, whereby you only "cutover" to the other server when it's time to flip the switch.
