When i check in task manager mem usage is high for sqlservr.exe (around 13GB).

That is normal. Why is it a problem? SQL Server is designed to be a memory hog.

Is it a dedicated database server?

I'll set the max memory to about 14336 (leaves 2 GB for the OS).

You don't want to decrease memory usage in your case. Doing so will decrease performance.

It doesn't sound like your management has experience with SQL Server.

I'm with russell and Sachin regarding lowering the max setting, but it isn't going to change what you are seeing in Task Manager since you aren't even using 14GB yet.
