Not sure if this should be on the twit list as it's not database related at all.

I want to propose our Health and Safety people. Not satisfied with their existing bizarre policies on PAT testing where the frequency of tests appears to depend on who you are or where your office is, they have apparently lately decreed that any item that gets moved needs to be pat tested.

While this may have sounded reasonable to someone it certainly doesn't take into account the vast number of people in the organisation who use laptops and regularly take them elsewhere to work. This new policy would therefore mean that the lappy would need testing every time it was brough back to work, or even better if you happen to take it to more than one of the organisations buildings in one day it could be tested mulitple times in one day. To add to the fun the organisation is trying to encourage people to use more flexible working patterns e.g. working from home.

The phrase that springs to mind involves elbows and .... well you know

If it meant that my laptop would be tested as I come in to the office, and again when I left, then hell yeah, I'll work from home all the time.

And if enough people do that, well shit, can you justify having all those Health & Safety staff anyway? I mean all their time spent PAT testing would disappear and they'd have nothing to do.

How about testing cell phones, iPads, iPods, etc.?

How about electrical devices that are meant to move around? Vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, electrical tools, fork lifts, etc.?

How about the PAT test equipment?
