Hello,

We need to add physical RAM to our SQL Server 2008 2-node cluster. Can we leave active node up and take down passive node to add the memory? Then we would failover to upgraded node and take down the newly passive node to add more memory.

Or should we down the whole thing and upgrade memory?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Morrisos

you can do it one node at a time as you described. after both nodes are upgraded, then configure max memory setting in sql

What you describe is one of the big reasons to use clustering as you limit the downtime to just the failover which should be about 30-60 seconds.
