I have the Disk Drive which holds for all the Backups; DATA files stuff, is all of sudden filling up for the last fortnight.

We have done in previous attempts with any hidden files were built up then we have deleted there after is all ok. However, this time there is no evidence of such Hidden files but the free space is rapidly getting decreased.

I have checked if there is any evidence for the objects being created as of the database practises but no evidence from trace files as well.

Can anyone tell as to where I need to look into this aspect is ticking away the disk space.

Thanks All.

Are you configured at the OS level to see hidden and system files? Any chance that the Recycle bin is on that drive and needs to be emptied? Is the page swap file on that drive?

No Hidden Files and System Files and no Recycle Bin and Page Swap Drive is not configured.

Still Unknown what to do?

We are organising for Reboot of the server, Fingers Crossed.

What do you think this will do for you? Are your database files (.mdf, .ldf, .ndf) located on the drive (this may be your "DATA files stuff", I'm not 100% sure)? If yes, are the databases set to full mode? If yes, are you backing up the TLogs periodically? Where is TempDB? Do you have additional disk (hopefully physical) partitions on the server?

Personally, if TempDB is there and it's grown quite large, a reboot will shrink that back to it's originally designated size but it won't purge any files or whatnot that may be accumulating/growing. A reboot seems to be a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to me - you need to find the root cause.

first thing: do you have databases in full recovery model that aren't getting the t-logs backed up?

2nd thing: are there any automatic updates failing? if they are, you'll find that they are being downloaded every day. Check your \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\ directory

As you have claimed there are no other hotfixes running. Only related to MDF; .BAK and some .SQL Stuff stationed in this directory.

There are no automatic updates going on from this Drive.

I knew the Reboot will resize the TEMPDB yet there is no such thing happened as TEMPDB is in separate drive.

This is Application Server and all DB's are in Simple recovery mode.

Still unawares and further soultion thanks.

Are the backups set to append or initialize the file?

At last I have made some R & D work on my OS level and got it sorted out. The reason was some Mis Reporting structure has been storing regularly for the last couple of months and was built from other drives to the Affected drive. Though it is peculiar mapped and now discovered.

As I indicated and ever since I am convinced that it is not the Database or the Server which causing the problem but purely on the Hidden and mis offending structured file system.

However, it was deleted but I am currently working on how to overcome or stop that misreporting structured files again coming back onto this drive.

Anyhow, thanks to all who shared their views and it is encouraging and keep it up.
