Hi All,

Wondered if you could answer a query

I work day to day maintaining databases in MS SQL 2000/05/08 and installing large database servers.

I havnt got any formal SQL qualifications as everything is experience , but have a large knowledge of SQL installations and repairing databases with data moves etc.

Is there any need to get qualified , and does getting qualified mean you get a 'step up' looking for jobs , oppurtunities etc?

Many thanks

not unless you consider the benefits worthwhile, and some of the benefits will only be internal to your own self-worth. you may not see any extra physical reward

it can be useful to get past many recruiters "minimum competancy tickboxes"

search here for other viewpoints previously expressed by others.

I agree. Experience seems to be all. Especially when it comes down to salary.

The tick boxes comment is probably spot on though.

Getting qualified means IMHO not only to pass a test and get some kind of title.
It means also learning / preparation.

And it never happened to me that I could say: "That's not useful because I already know everything about that...", regardless how much experience I have.

No, you're never too old to Yak'n'Roll if you're too young to die.
