BACKUP DATABASE AdventureWorks
TO DISK='\\ServerName\SQLServerBackups\AdventureWorks1.bak'

You need to give the SQL Server (and agent, maybe) service account permission to write to the location.

What error are you getting?

Permission usually are the culprit in these cases, the account used to run the sql server needs to write to your UNC (share & NTFS permission)
